This tutorial shows you how to set up Microsoft Outlook to work with
your e-mail account. This tutorial focuses on setting up Microsoft
Outlook 2007, but these settings are similar in other versions of
Microsoft Outlook like 2002 or 2010. You can set up previous versions of Microsoft
Outlook by using the settings in this tutorial. For Outlook 2000 please refer to our Outlook Express Tutorial. Click here to go back to view instructions for another email client.
To Set Up Your E-mail Account in Microsoft Outlook
-
In Microsoft Outlook, select Tools >Account Settings.
- On the E-mail Accounts wizard window, select "Add a new e-mail account" and click New.
- Select the Exchange, POP3 option

- You may be tempted to enter your data on the next screen - Outlook will try to automatically configure your settings
- We recommend entering the settings manually - they are straight forward:

On the Internet E-mail Settings (POP3) window, enter your information as follows:
- Your Name
- Enter your first and last name.
- E-mail Address
- Enter your e-mail address.
- User Name
- Enter your e-mail address, again.
- Password
- Enter the password you set up for your e-mail account.
- Incoming mail server (POP3)
- Your incoming server is mail.coolexample.com, where "coolexample.com" is the name of your domain.
- Outgoing mail server (SMTP)
- Enter mail.coolexample.com also for your outgoing mail server.
Click "More Settings."
- On the Internet E-mail Settings window, select the "Outgoing Server" tab.
- Select "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication."
- Select the "Advanced" tab. The ports selected should be 110 for POP3 and 25 or 26 for SMTP.

Please note that some Internet Service Provider (ISP) force you to use their outgoing server by blocking port 25.
In those cases, please try using port 26 or contact your ISP for further instructions.
- If you plan to download your email to more than one computer please checkmark
"Leave a copy of messages on server" AND "Remove from server after 15 days".
Note that your email account has limited space - usually 250 MB to 1GB. Note that if you receive emails with big attachments and specify a far higher number of days,
there is a chance of your mailbox becoming full and emails bouncing back.

- Click OK, and hit the Test Settings button.

- Close this dialog by ckicking OK.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
